What happens during Rhinoplasty?

In this procedure the skin of your nose will be carefully separated from the bone of the nose and cartilage. The surgeon will reshape your nose as you desire by sculpting the bone and redistributing the cartilage. When the ideal shape has been achieved, the surgeon will reposition the skin in its new framework.

Which is the length of the surgery?

Usually rhinoplasty takes about 1 to 2 hours. Some complicated procedures may take longer.

Will I have to stay in the hospital?

No, you can go home on the same day of your surgery.

How much time will I have to wait to go back to work?

Most of our patients can return to their work after 2 days, as long as their work activities do not imply a lot of physical effort. But if you are able to take 1 week off work it would better for your total recovery.

Do you have some extra tips for a faster recovery?

After 24 hours of your surgery, you will see puffiness in your face, your nose will ache and you may have a dull headache. The doctor will give you some prescribed pain medication to lessen the effects. You will also notice that in the first 24-48 hours after surgery, the swelling and bruising will increase, but it will get to its peak after 72 hours approximately.

Some extra recommendations we give to our patients for a better and faster recovery, are the following:

  • Try to sleep with your head elevated by some big pillows in the back of your head.
  • Apply cold compresses to diminish the swelling.
  • Avoid blowing your nose the first week
  • Avoid hitting or rubbing your nose
  • Don’t exercise or do certain activities that could increase your blood pressure for about 2 or 3 weeks after your surgery.

When would I see the final results of my nose job?

Remember healing is a slow and gradual process that will take months to really see the final results. You will see less swelling and bruising within 1 to 3 weeks
