Duodenal Switch
in Mexico
The Duodenal Switch is a procedure that combines the benefits of two Bariatric Surgeries (Gastric Bypass and Gastric Sleeve) where the size of your stomach is reduced and re-joins the small intestine, resulting in a large decrease in absorption of calories and fat of the food.
One of the benefits of this procedure is that patients can expect a loss of 75% - 85% of excess weight, due to the elimination of the hunger hormone.
The Procedure
- Medications are administered for your comfort during the weight loss surgery.
- Make several small incisions on your abdomen to insert the laparoscope.
- The doctor conduct a Gastric Sleeve, removing around 80 percent of the stomach and converting the remainder into a slender tube.
- Then divide the small bowel that normally connects to the stomach (called the duodenum) to create the bypass.
- Consumed food would normally go from the sleeve into the initial part of the small intestine, but it is re-routed or switched to the lower part of the small intestine.
